As if we needed another video game for girls “Guppylife for girls”
The purpose of the game is to look after the furry inhabitants of the planet; what an innovation! I do agree with Alice though, the design looks great but please, its bad enough creating another video game for girls (have a look in any games store at the DS titles and you will agree) but to brand it “for girls” is not the best way to market it. Women and girls are put off by anything which overtly targets them as women. Not only does it put women off, but as one Lady Geek told me “just because I have breasts, doesn’t mean I gravitate to other breasts.” Nicely put i think. Apple never brought out the ipod and marketed it “for girls” but they did alot of research into understanding what women would respond to. Sony Bravia are positioning their TV as “a piece of furniture” not as “a piece of furniture for women” but their strategy is very much to appeal to the female market. The opportunity is for brands to understand the subtleties of connecting with women. Its complicated. Women are complicated. And an overt “girls only” approach just ain’t going to cut it.
It seems these days that almost any crappiness in shovel-ware can be excused on the basis that it is “for girls”.
My daughter is too young to try out this particular experience – I know that some very young girls do find the hyper-cuteness of this game endearing but I’m not sure that there’s a sufficiently big idea to pull kids away from other very popular social-networking sites (e.g. Club Penguin).

Actually I think I have been a bit harsh. I have just seen the video of the CEO Per Rosendal of Guppyworks on YouTube Per Rosendal, CEO, Guppyworks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvUXgYmvAsM and he’s actually done a lot of research into girls and spent 6 months testing GuppyLife to make sure it resonates with girls. He discusses the differences between boy and girl play; i am still not quite sure what age group or mindset the game is targeting but he raises some interesting points.
Judging by the looks of the screenshot and the video I think it seems like a game for kids and teenagers not adult women. It looks really apealing though and I’m sure I could spend some time playing it together with my daughter
Check out the video at the Tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbtcd5fmoF4 – looks like fun
GuppyLife is coming out in English. Pre-register at guppylife.com if you are interested.
Remember that it is targeted to children / tweens. I am really excited about it – a lot of social activities available in game. The motivation to join a virtual world should be something else than “meeting boys” – especially at this target group. I hope we’ll reach those girls
When you are trying to be creative, your ideas must be unique and effective at the same time, which is possible only if you are a good team player, as well services.
Cute! I think girls like games that has more fashion design and more animated..
im a 13 year old girl and ive been trying to find a good game to play for the longest time.
id have to say im not to crazy about guppy life either. i dont want a game where i have to take care of animals or babies or dress up dolls. i want an action game thats not halo or call of duty.
i found this one game, katamari damacy, that i might be interested in. but it looks that ill get it, be addicted to it for a few weeks and then stop playing it.
guess i’ll just have to stick with my paper mario and GTA then(:
